1/2AE Class Overview
We are really looking forward to welcoming the children back to an exciting new term in September.
Our topic for this half term will be Woodland Wonders and will focus on the Science, Geography and Art curriculums. We will be making visits to the Forest School area at the top of the field to investigate plants and animals. We will be using fieldwork skills to draw maps, follow routes and use simple compass directions. In Art we are going to be looking at the work of Andy Goldsworthy, who draws much of his inspiration from nature.
In English this term our choice of text will support our topic work as we are starting with tale of Little Red Riding Hood. We will be using the text to explore characters, settings and storytelling, and then to develop our own writing skills and style. Listening to your child read each night and reading to them is critical to their progress in English so please continue to do this as much as you can. This is something we will monitor as the year progresses.
This term in Maths we are starting the year with number and place value and then moving on to addition and subtraction. Towards the end of the term we will be learning how to use money to calculate and finally an introduction to multiplication and division.
Please be advised that children will need a full P.E. kit in school from the start of term. P.E. days for our class are Monday and Friday. Hair should be tied back and children need to be able to remove their own stud earrings, if they choose to wear them to school.
Your child should bring their reading record and reading book to school every day, along with a named water bottle. All uniform, coats, and winter wear should be clearly labelled so that it can be returned to your child in the event that it is lost.
We thank you for your support in advance and look forward to the coming term.
