Phonics
As a school, we follow a systematic phonics approach which is based on best practice and current research.
Children in reception will initially be taught as a class and then grouped according to their phonic knowledge and learning needs.
In Year 1 and Year 2 the children will be assessed and grouped according to their phonic knowledge across the two classes. This enables children who need further support learn at their pace but also enables those ready to progress at a quicker pace the opportunity to do so.
We offer phonic interventions for children in Year 1 to support them in the Year 1 phonics test at the end of the year.
