Phonics
As a school, we follow a systematic phonics approach which is based on best practice and current research which we have developed as an approach known as 'Rayne Readers'.
Children in reception will initially be taught as a class and then grouped according to their phonic knowledge and learning needs.
In Year 1 and Year 2 the children will be assessed and grouped according to their phonic knowledge across the two classes. This enables children who need further support learn at their pace but also enables those ready to progress at a quicker pace the opportunity to do so.
We offer phonic interventions in all year groups to help pupils keep up and catch up. This includes pupils in year 3 if needed.
